Star Date 311998.4023655504 Project # 1
Finally, this was the day I have been waiting for. Not only was I excited to start, but I had a million ideas of this first project. Mind you, I wanted it to look kid friendly, little did I know that it would not be an issue since, well, it was my first test run on this idea.
I decided that this "trinket" was going to technically be larger than a true trinket and I wanted it to have use. It is meant to be fun and interesting, and the first person that came to mind was my adorable grandson, Jacob who is now 8 months. This is something maybe that he can enjoy for a few years until it either wears out, or he bores with.
Now the issues I'm having with presenting it to you. My photos are not coming out like I'd like them to. I'm not into perfection, however I am into presentation. I love to wow and amaze, or at least entertain. So, with this being said, I need your imagination to carry you through the rest of this post.
First, a wide mouth canning jar. Yay for recycling! The flat metal part of the lid, five holes made arbitrarily made by lightly pounding a nail tip into. Wonderful spongy moss, two rocks (picked up during a gathering venture) a twig from a fallen limb, black thread, and here's the kicker.. GLOW IN THE DARK CLAY. Can you say "Squeeee"?
So, in making a little scene in a jar, I proceed in making my interpretation of "Lightening Bugs". Then, knotting said thread, placing inside bugs, bake, then place thread through lid holes at different levels.
Covering the jar is part of an old bandana, twine and a rather poorly letter "J" cut from scrap jean material.
Voila, set jar next to bright light (or outside) and you have glowing lightening bugs in a jar for nap time for a little one.
I can not get a good photo of the "glowing" part, sadly but there is where your imagination needs activating.
I had fun... I'm excited. I think over the weekends, there might possibly be more than one trinket a day.
Happy New Years Day!

Cute idea!
ReplyDeleteVery, very cute idea! I love the execution of it and your story is great...lucky little boy to have such a creative grandmother!
ReplyDeleteThank you both! *beams*
ReplyDeleteI love it when a plan comes together. I think after more practice it could be perfect. I think the best jar/lids could possible be the "Fuze" drink bottles. They strip clean, have no imprinted words and could have two or three in a small space.
